Spirals
Judith Weinshall Liberman

The SPIRALS series of acrylic paintings was created in 2022, when I was 93 years old. After completing several series of abstract paintings during that year (PATTERNS; WEAVING PATTERNS; TRANSITIONS; FADE-OUT; ALPHABET), I decided to explore spirals in my art.

I have been intrigued by spirals for many years. Although I've been aware of their symbolic meaning of echoing a person's search for his/her inner being, what captured my own interest most about spirals has always been the fact that the powerful movement they represent comes to an abrupt stop. In the SPIRALS series, movement is rendered through the use of color, first a single color, then two.

Like so many experiences in life, something that promises to go on forever comes to a sudden stop. Like life itself, which suddenly ends.
